Wilson, N.C. – The Wilson Tobs are happy to welcome Trey Paige and Scott Mackiewicz to the team for the 2022 season, two vital utility players eager to contribute no matter where they are on the field. Thirdd year Head Coach Harry Markotay is excited to have players like Paige and Mackiewicz who can impact the game wherever they are plugged into the lineup.

Paige, a redshirt sophomore from Reading, PA, is a product of Delaware State University. The left handed hitter is an all-around threat that has made starts during his career at every position on the field other than pitcher or catcher. Following his freshman year in 2020, which was cut short due to COVID-19, he had a breakout season in 2021. Paige led his Hornets in every major offensive category starting 42 of 43 games with a .371 BA, 1.067 OPS, 52 total hits, 13 2B, 5 HR, 32 RBIs and 29 walks which earned him a spot on the All-MEAC first team. His strong 2021 season continued into the summer where he played in the Sunbelt League and started 26 of 28 games while keeping pace with his performance during the regular season. Prior to the 2022 season, Paige was named as the pre-season Player of the Year and has not disappointed. In only 12 games so far, he has collected 5 2B, 3 HR and an OB% of .452. The Tobs are ready to pencil in Paige anywhere in the lineup, knowing that he will deliver a high level performance no matter where his glove is needed most.

Mackiewicz, a sophomore from Millbury, OH, comes to the Tobs from the University of Toledo. Also a left-handed hitting utility man, Mackiewicz joins the team after a stellar freshman year and summer season. In 2021, Mackiewicz primarily played 2B and made his presence known offensively. The true freshman posted a .308 BA with an OPS of .985. He was second on the team in HR (7) and OB% (.421), trailing only former Wilson Tob (‘19 and ‘20) and 2021 Detroit Tigers draft pick Chris Meyers.

This past summer Mackiewicz took his game to the Great Lakes League where he was an All-Star for the Sandusky Ice Haulers. He took the league by storm with an OPS of 1.099 and 44 runs created. Finishing his summer season with a .375 BA, 10 2B, 2 3B, 9 HR and a league best 51 RBIs, Mackiewicz was named the Great Lakes Player of the Year. So far in 2022, he is primarily playing CF for his Rockets with 4 2B, 2 HR and a .352 OB% on the young season.

Having two players of this caliber who can flash the leather anywhere on the field and cause chaos at the plate gives Head Coach Harry Markotay some key pieces to work with. The CPL should expect to see Paige and Mackiewicz all over the field this summer impacting the game in a big way.
