WILSON, N.C. – The Wilson Tobs hosted the Greenville Yard Gnomes on Saturday night for ‘We are WilTson’ night at the ballpark. On a swelteringly hot Saturday night at Historic Fleming Stadium, the Tobs took down the Yard Gnomes 16-6 in eight innings.
After falling behind early, Wilson managed to work its way back to claim its second walk-off win of the week.
Greenville struck first on Saturday night, posting four runs on Tobs starter Brady Pacha in the top of the third inning. It didn’t take long for the Tobs to respond in the home half of the frame, getting three runs back in the bottom of the third.
After the Yard Gnomes added two more runs to their lead in the top of the fourth, the Tobs were once again able to respond relatively swiftly. Wilson plated one run in the Tobs half of the fourth, to take a 2-run deficit into the second half of the ball game.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Tobs were finally able to breakthrough and take their first lead of the game. A 3-run bottom of the fifth that was capped off by a Jack Kail 2-RBI double, saw Wilson take a 7-6 lead into the sixth – a lead the Tobs would never surrender the rest of the evening.
Nine more runs over the course of the next three innings granted the Tobs a 16-6 run-rule victory in eight innings over the Yard Gnomes. The walk-off win was delivered by Hector Candelas, who singled home Kail to clinch the win.
Candelas’ walk-off capped off a 3-5 performance for the right fielder.
Elsewhere for the Tobs, Kail turned in one of the best performances of the season for any Wilson player. The Tobs’ shortstop went 5-6 at the plate with three singles and two doubles. Kail ended the evening with four RBIs.
The Tobs are back in action tomorrow evening (Sunday, June 30) in Tri-City to take on the Chili Peppers at Shepherd Stadium at 5:45 p.m. ET.
