Wilson, NC- The Wilson Tobs walked-off at home for the first time this season defeating the Martinsville Mustangs in extra innings by a final score of 6-5. Mason Sykes scores his third run of the game to lift the Tobs to victory to kick off the holiday weekend.

Tobs added three more home runs to their CPL leading total, standing now at 37. Matt Schark, Jacob McCaskey and Mason Sykes exit the yard and bring the sell out crowd to their feet.

Tobs had a 3-1 advantage going into the fifth inning, but they quickly saw their lead vanish as the Mustangs plated three runs to take the lead for the first time. Sykes’ home run in the fifth tied the game at 4-4 and both teams would trade scoreless innings until we reached extras.

Tanner Halvorson, Brent Francisco and Jay Luikhart on the mound did not allow another Mustang run to score. The Tobs had multiple opportunities to win the game in regulation, but Mustang hurler Caleb McRoy continued to fan the Wilson batters. McRoy finished with nine strikeouts with five in-a-row at one point.

For the first time this year the Wilson Tobs would play in an extra-inning ballgame. Jake Curry would pitch the 10th frame and only one of the inherited base runners would come home to score making it a 5-4 advantage for the visitors. The dramatics began when PH Ethan Ott drew a lead-off walk to load the bases with nobody out. Schark would strike out for the first out, meaning a double-play got the Mustangs out of the game with the win. Trey Paige in a full count would earn a walk and plate Blake Evans for the tying run at 5-5. Mackiewicz looked for a ball to reach the outfield but was sat down swinging. Tre Jones with two outs stepped into the box and down to his final strike, watched a passed ball get away from the catcher and Sykes scored the first walk-off run of the season.

In a game filled with hits, strikeouts, double-plays and more, the Tobs emerged victorious on July 2nd over Martinsville, 6-5 F/10.

The Tobs travel to Wilmington on Sunday to take on the Sharks, and will return home on Tuesday July 5th to battle with Holly Springs at 7:00P.M.
