The Wilson Tobs traveled to High Point to take on The Thomasville HiToms in an interconference matchup. The teams faced off at Truist Point Ballpark, home of the High Point Rockers, as a part of a five-game city connect series.

Coming off a 10-1 victory over the Wilmington Sharks, the Tobs looked to continue their momentum and tie the Marlins for 2nd place in the eastern standings.

Garrett Anglim, from the University of Nebraska, helped Wilson claim an early lead. On his first two plate appearances, Anglim recorded two solo home runs. Tying him for 6th in the CPL for home runs, just after two games in a Tobs jersey.

Through seven innings of play, the pitching committee of Trent Harris, Greg Ferguson, and Connor Caporale racked up seven strikeouts, while holding the HiToms to five hits and one run.

At the top of the 8th inning, the Tobs began to pull away. An RBI double from Connor Tucker brought two runs home and kickstarted the Wilson offense. Harrison Pontoli and Brian Fry were both able to bring a run home with a base-hit RBI. A four-run 8th inning gave Wilson a 6-1 advantage going into the bottom of the 8th.

However, the HiToms late game rally put them back in the ball game. The HiToms responded in the home half of the 8th and put two runs on the board, cutting the deficit to just three.

In the 9th, Thomasville retired the Tobs, three up three down, giving them a shot to force extra innings or walk off with a win.

In the bottom of the inning, The HiToms found themselves down by three with the bases loaded. However, with his back against the ball, Jonah Milchuck was able to get himself out of the jam.

The Hitoms late game rally wasn’t enough, and Wilson walked away with a 6-4 victory.

The Tobs will quickly turn around and face off against the Peninsula Pilots on June 10th at War Memorial Stadium.
