Wilson, N.C. –Wilson snaps its CPL losing streak with a 5-3 win over the top-seeded Peninsula Pilots on Tuesday night at Historic Fleming Stadium.
The Tobs got off to a hot start, scoring three in the first inning. Logan Luckett walked, Chase Waddell doubled, then both were sent home by Carter Murphy’s double. Thad Ector hit an RBI double before the inning ended.
Charlie Bussey launched a solo homer in the 2nd, his first of the season, the day after being named to the CPL All-Star team. Bussey added a SAC Fly in the 4th, and that was the last of the offense from the home side.
Nathan Leininger got the start and dazzled in four scoreless innings. The righthander from Toledo struck out seven and only allowed two hits. Ethan Wilford got the Tobs out of a bases loaded jam once again and turned the ball over to Mathew Mariano who delivered two shutout frames.
Casey O’Dell was called upon to close it out and nailed down his second save of the season to clinch the win over the Pilots.
The Tobs play the Pilots in Peninsula on Wednesday before returning home to take on the Holly Springs Salamanders at Historic Fleming Stadium on Thursday. It’ll be the second Fireworks Extravaganza of the season.
