The Wilson Tobs (24-16) rode a dominant offensive performance to a 10-6 victory over the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms (17-23) in the first of three games against West Division opponents.
Wilson wasted no time getting on the board. Charlie Bussey III led off the game with a solo home run, and cleanup hitter Chase Waddell followed with a two-run blast to cap a three-run first inning. The Tobs added three more in the third to build a 6-1 lead.
While the bats cooled slightly, they didn’t go quiet. Wilson tacked on four more runs through the middle innings to maintain control and secure the win.
Bussey finished the night 3-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored, while Jack Kail turned in a strong showing, going 2-for-4 with three runs and two walks. Jakhari Howard extended his on-base streak to five games and added two more stolen bases—bringing his total to eight in the past four contests.
Hunter Dyck got the start and allowed just one run over three innings. The bullpen was strong once again, with Elliot Veisauydra throwing two scoreless innings and collecting two strikeouts. Zac Martin and Luke Ridley held off the Hi-Toms down the stretch.
The Tobacconists are on the road once again in Martinsville on Saturday night before returning to Fleming Stadium for Sundae Funday and Christmas in July on the 26th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm against the High Point Thomasville Hi-Toms.
