WILMINGTON, N.C. – Led by six scoreless innings from right-hander Trent Harris and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Patrick Fultz, the Wilson Tobs (14-9) took down the Wilmington Sharks (12-9) by a final score of 1-0 at in game one of Friday’s doubleheader at Buck Hardee Field.
Wilson then proceeded to fall in the nightcap of the team’s first doubleheader of the 2023 campaign, yielding a go-ahead single off the bat of Alec Gonzalez to drop a 1-0 contest and be shut out for the second time this summer.
After picking up in the top of the second with the game scoreless in the resumption of the previously suspended contest between these two teams, the Fultz sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth finally broke the ice to give Wilson the 1-0 lead. Two more zeroes posted by Harris and a two-inning save out of Reese Miller helped slam the door the Tobs on Friday, earning them a one-run victory and securing win No. 14 in the summer of 2023.
In the second game of the two, a seven-inning affair, the contest remained scoreless entering the home half of the sixth. Four perfect frames from left-hander Cam Edmonson gave Wilson the start it needed, and Caleb Clark followed suit with a flawless inning of his own. Finally, the Sharks broke through. Gonzalez’s RBI base knock gave Wilmington the lead, and although the Tobs would threaten in the top of the seventh, they couldn’t scratch across a run.
Wilson now looks to get back on track when it plays host to the Holly Springs Salamanders for a 6:30 p.m. ET first pitch and Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday evening at Historic Fleming Stadium. Those still looking to purchase tickets can do so through showpass at wilsontobs.com.
