Wilson, N.C – Wilson (23-13) split its Thursday doubleheader with the Greenville Yard Gnomes (16-24) and stay in the running in the CPL Eastern Division playoff race.

Game one was resumed after weather suspended July 10th’s contest against Greenville. The Yard Gnomes led 8-2 when the rain came, and they hung on to win a 15-11 slugfest. Each team struggled to get outs from their bullpen as the offense combined to score 16 runs in the game’s final five frames.

Matthew Williams had four RBI in game one and Jack Kail led the offense with three hits, but unfortunately for Wilson it came in a losing effort. The Tobs scored six runs in the bottom of the 9th, but it wasn’t enough to come all the way back from a season-high 10-run deficit.

Nathan Leininger (2-1) is the bridge between both games. He originally started game one and allowed four runs, taking the loss – but he was on his scheduled start day Thursday and was handed the ball in game two, delivering five scoreless innings and striking out a season-high ten hitters.

Newcomer Ty Woods made his first appearance in relief with one inning pitched, a strikeout and the defense helping him turn a double play to end the ballgame.

The Tobs’ offense came alive in game two, with a pair of towering home runs from the middle of their lineup. Williams and Carter Murphy each went yard, and Christian Michak poured in a 3-3 effort with three RBI from the nine spot in the order.

The Tobacconists are on the road Friday and Saturday with two games against West Division teams. They return to Fleming for Christmas in July and a Sundae Funday on the 27th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm against the High Point Thomasville Hi-Toms.
