Wilson, N.C. – The Tobs (1-0) take down the Pilots (0-1) in Game 1 of the East Division Championship Series 4-0 after winning the play-in game against the Sharks.
Wilson was dominant on the mound, shutting out the top-seeded Pilots for the first time all season long – only allowing two hits. Luke Ridley started and struck out eight in five scoreless innings. Ethan Wilford, Hunter Dyck and Ethan Atchley combined to keep Peninsula off the board the rest of the way.
The Tobs scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 0-0 deadlock. Dominic Palma grounded a sharply-hit ball at shortstop Sammy Mammau and he misplayed it, allowing Matthew Williams and Jose Sallorin to come in to score. Jakhari Howard scored on a Chase Waddell sac-fly in the 6th.
Carter Murphy launched a home run in the bottom of the 8th to give the Tobs insurance before they nailed down the win.
The Tobs travel to Peninsula for game 2 of the EDCS on Wednesday night. With a win, the Tobs secure a place in the Petitt Cup Championship. If the Pilots win game 2, game 3 will be played at Peninsula on Thursday in win-or-go-home fashion.
