Wilson, NC – The Tobs (22-14) stayed in the win column with a 2-1 victory over the Salamanders (17-19) on Tuesday night.
It was a pitcher’s duel at Fleming and six Tobs pitchers combined to hold Holly Springs to one run on just four hits. Carson Everette got the win, and started a stretch of four straight innings without a hit allowed.
The 7th, 8th and 9th belonged to Dylan Maire, Ethan Atchley and Casey O’Dell who slammed the door shut. O’Dell picked up his sixth save of the season.
Offensively, Christian Michak got the Tobs started with an RBI-single to drive in Chase Waddell who led off the 2nd with a double. In the sixth, Carter Murphy missed a go-ahead home run by inches – but later came home on what turned out to be the game-winning hit from Matthew Williams.
The Tobs play Tri-City on the road on Wednesday before a double-header on Thursday. The Tobs will continue their July 10th matchup with Greenville, who leads 8-2 in the 4th. Then Wilson will play its regularly scheduled game against the Yard Gnomes, but it will be just seven innings. Game one will resume at 6:00 p.m with game two set to start about a half-hour after. It will be ladies night at the ballpark.
