The Coastal Plain league announced its All-Star teams for the 2025 CPL All-Star game in Macon, GA — and Wilson is well represented.
Chase Waddell, Charlie Bussey III, Carter Murphy and Casey O’Dell have been selected as Tobs All-Stars to represent the Eastern Division at the ASG, Waddell as the East’s starting catcher.
For Waddell, this will be his second straight CPL All-Star appearance, earning the honor in 2024 as well. Waddell’s 2025 numbers trump his 2024 stats already, as he is firmly in the conversation for CPL player of the year.
Waddell leads Wilson in almost every statistical category, and ranks near the tops in the league in many as well. With a .403 batting average, four homers and 29 RBI, his production has been through the roof for the Tobs.
“Chase has been one of the top two or three hitters in the league two years running now,” said head coach Ted Bergquist. [He’s] extremely intelligent and baseball savvy on both sides, offensively and defensively.”
Bussey III has settled in to the leadoff role for head coach Ted Bergquist and has done an excellent job of setting the table. Due to his 24 hits, 26 walks and 6 HBPs, Bussey has an on base percentage of .500 — while playing all over the diamond defensively.
“Charlie is as tough an out as there is in the CPL, battling deep into counts and finding his way on base for us often,” Bergquist said. “Then once on, a terrific base runner. One of the most dynamic baseball players I have ever had the opportunity to coach in my career.“
Murphy as a late addition to the All-Star roster but is certainly deserving. Murphy is second on the team with a .338 batting average to go with two home runs and 11 RBI. On the diamond, Murphy arrived as a first and third baseman, but has settled in the outfield.
“Carter Murphy covers the strike zone at the plate on both sides as well as any hitter in the CPL,” said Bergquist. “Hard working, hustles out every ball in play. [He has a] good glove and gets great reads in the outfield.”
O’Dell has been the steadiest pitcher on Wilson’s staff. Firmly in the closer role, O’Dell has finished each game he has appeared in, earning three wins and one save on the year — to go along with a 0.77 ERA in almost 12 innings with 10 punch-outs.
“Casey is our go to arm in late and in tight game situations,” Bergquist said. “He has commanded the zone and dominated hitters on his way to the All-Star game this summer.”
Safe to say, the Tobs’ coaching staff is excited to have these three players in Wilson.
“It is a pleasure to have a front row seat and to coach all four of these Tobs All- Stars this summer,” Bergquist said. “They will represent Wilson very well over All-Star Weekend.”
The All-Star festivities will take place at Luther Williams Field on July 6 and 7.
