Greenville, N.C.— The Tobs (11-7) beat the Yard Gnomes (5-13) at Guy Smith Stadium 7-5.
The second inning was all Christian Michak as he was walked, then took two bags before stealing home, giving the Tobs a 1-0 lead.
Greenville responded with three runs in the third and another in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
In the sixth, Carter Murphy’s RBI single put a run on the board for the Tobs. Jakhari Howard’s sacrifice hit cut the Gnomes lead to 4-3.
The Yard Gnomes were only able to score one more in the seventh, to make it a 5-3 ballgame.
Casey O’Dell took the mound in the eigth to shutdown the Gnomes offense for the last two innings.
Another run came for the Tobs off a pitching balk before Charlie Bussey hit a two RBI double to take back the lead 6-3. Jerry Barnes sealed the game with a solo home run in the ninth for the final score of 7-3.
On Sunday, the TaterHogs return to Historic Fleming Stadium for a Sundae Funday and Homerun 4 Hunger – if you bring four nonperishable food goods, you will receive free admission to the game – to take on the Boone Bigfoots. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm.
