The Tobs had their first road game of the season on Monday night in Colonial Heights, Virginia. It was their second meeting of the young season with the Tri City Chili Peppers, who beat the Tobs 4-3.
Wilson got on the scoreboard first, thanks to RBI hits from AJ Jones and Christian Michak in the fourth inning.
Tri City (2-3) answered with a solo home run from Evan Bouldin and squared the score at two in the 6th. A two-run double from Cooper Clapp gave the Chili Peppers a 4-2 lead, which turned out to be the knockout blow.
As has been the case in every game this season, the Tobs (2-1) threatened in the 8th inning. After a costly caught stealing, an RBI double from Evan Harding was all Wilson could manage in the frame. Harding had a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound the Tobs had another staff night. Hunter Dyck got the start and threw a scoreless first and the rest of the game saw eight Tob relievers get action, allowing just four runs. Josh Wise (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run without recording an out.
Marcus VanAlstine was called upon to get a five-out save for the Chili Peppers, and delivered a hitless outing, striking out three.
The Tobs are back in action Tuesday night at Historic Fleming Stadium for a rematch with the Chili Peppers. It’s the Books & Baseball Bash along with $2 Tuesday, first pitch set for 7:00 p.m.
