Wilson, NC – Wilson (20-13) wins a pitcher’s duel at Historic Fleming Stadium 3-2 over the reigning CPL champion Wilmington Sharks (17-19).
Jack Kail started the Tobs’ rally with his first jimmy of the season for two runs. Logan Luckett came home next on a wild pitch for the last Tobs run of the game, keeping a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning.
The story of the game came on the mound for Wilson. Nathan Leininger (1-0) tossed five shutout frames, allowing just one hit and striking out six. Case O’Dell finished the job with a six-out save, his fourth of the season.
The game did not come without drama. The Sharks had the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on first with two outs in the ninth. Wilmington tried to execute a double steal to score the tying run from third. After O’Dell stepped off the mound to throw to second, Jose Sallorin fired a strike to Chase Waddell who applied the tag to secure the win.
Wilson travels to Wilmington tomorrow for a matchup with the Sharks before hosting the Tri-City Chili Peppers at Historic Fleming Stadium on Saturday night. It will be Beach and Baseball Night at the park with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.
