WILSON, N.C. – On Saturday night, the Wilson Tobs hosted the Holly Springs Salamanders in a battle of two CPL East Division squads. Jumping out to an early lead, the Tobs never looked back, defeating the Salamanders 8-3, to hold onto sole possession of first place in the CPL’s East Division.
It took just four batters in the home half of the first inning for the Tobs to put their first run up onto the board. After Mackenzie Wainwright led off the frame with a double, Cole Robinson singled home the Tobs’ center fielder to put Wilson up 1-0 early.
Two more runs in the fifth and a five-spot in the sixth continued to extend the Tobs’ commanding lead over the Salamanders in the middle innings of the contest.
On the pitching front, a strong start by Brady Pacha was followed up by productive relief appearances of a slew of Tobs arms throughout the rest of the contest.
Two runs in the ninth for Holly Springs made the scoreline closer than it was for much of the contest, as Wilson walked away with an 8-3 win.
Sitting all alone atop the CPL’s East Division, the Tobs travel to Greenville to take on the last place Yard Gnomes on Sunday evening.
The next time that Tobs are back at Fleming Stadium is Tuesday, as the Tobs host the Peninsula Pilots on “2 for Tuesday” night at the ballpark!
