Wilson bested Peninsula in the second game of a home and home with a 9-5 win over the Pilots at War Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Tobs (15-10) offense was hot against the division’s top team. Matthew Williams got Wilson on the board with an RBI double in the first, he added a two-run double in the fourth for the Tobs. Chase Waddell kept his hot season going with a pair of RBI singles. Jack Kail reached base four times and the entire lineup was on at least once for the Tobs who handed the Pilots back-to-back losses.

Getting the start for Peninsula (16-10) was Cole Koonce (1-2), the East’s starting pitcher in the CPL All-Star game next week. In 15.1 innings pitched so far this season he had not given up an earned run, but the Tobs offense changed that — tagging him for four runs in just three innings.

Matthew Rivers started for Wilson and delivered four shutout frames. The last five innings were covered by the bullpen. Peninsula tried to stage a comeback but the pen stood strong. Casey O’Dell nailed the game down with a scoreless ninth and Ryan Harrahill (2-1) got the win for the Tobs.

The Tobacconists are back in action on Thursday for the second Fireworks Extravaganza of the year at Historic Fleming Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 against the Holly Springs Salamanders.
