Wilson, N.C. – Pink ice cream for everybody as the Tobs (13-8) beat the Yard Gnomes (6-14) 14-4 in seven innings during Pink Night at Fleming stadium.
Greenville struck first, taking a 3-1 lead after four and a half innings before the Tobs bats heated up.
An offensive onslaught from Wilson saw 13 runs scored from the fifth to the seventh inning, for Wilson to secure its first win via the mercy rule of the season.
It was a balanced effort as all nine Tobs reached base at least one, but Jack Kail, Carter Murphy, Chase Waddell and Logan Luckett each drove in multiple runs on Thursday night. Despite not getting a hit, Charley Bussey III scored four runs from being walked four times.
The Tobs entered the 7th with a 10-4 lead and scored four runs to clinch the victory due to a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to Christian Michak before Greenville was able to record an out.
Braxton Stewart got the start for the Tobs and exited the game in the 4th due to injury. Prior to his exit, Stewart had four strikeouts and allowed two runs, but left the bases loaded. Ethan Wilford entered and got the Tobs out of the jam, keeping his ERA a perfect 0.00 on the year.
Carson Everette (2-0) got the win for Wilson and Matthew Rivers pitched the final two innings. The Tobs are undefeated in four contests against the Yard Gnomes this season.
The Tobacconists are on the road Friday night in Morehead City to take on the Marlins. On Saturday, the TaterHogs host the Macon Bacon at 6:30 for Tailgate Night at Historic Fleming Stadium.
