Hampton, VA – The Tobs (3-3) put up a fight but were unable to take down the undefeated Peninsula Pilots (7-0), losing 6-3 at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, VA.
Tobs starting pitcher, Colin Murphy, was able to get out of bases loaded with minimal damage as the Pilots led 1-0 after the first inning. Carlos Pena scored off a sacrifice fly from Darnell Parker.
In the third, Grayson Fitzwater hit a two-run home run to bring the Pilot’s lead up 3-0. Two innings later, Parker hit a two RBI single to open up the game 5-0.
The Tobs were able to gain some traction once the Pilots opened their bullpen. Carter Murphy’s single in the 5th marked the first hit for the Tobaconnists.
Right-hander Brandon Dhalman loaded the bases after giving up two walks and allowing Jack Kail to single. Matthew Williams was able to capitalize and put the Tobs on the board with a two RBI single. Bussey III then came home on a wild pitch to make it a 5-3 ballgame after six.
The Pilots quickly responded with a RBI single from Henry Garcia, cementing their lead to 6-3. Jacob Dienes was able to keep them scoreless for the last three innings, but the Tobs offense was unable to come back.
The Tobs are back in action on June 8th against the reigning CPL champions, the Wilmington Sharks at 6:00pm for The Love of the Game night at Historic Fleming Stadium. All kids participating in youth sports can earn free entry by wearing their team jersey. It is also Sundae Funday at the park, with $5 ice cream sundaes. Tobs Roll!
