WILSON, N.C. – Despite Anton Lazit’s go-ahead two-run home run in the home half of the eighth, the Wilson Tobs (25-20, 11-10) saw their two-game winning streak snapped in a 5-4 defeat to the Morehead City Marlins (31-14, 15-6) on Tuesday night at Historic Fleming Stadium.
The loss marked the team’s fourth consecutive to Morehead City in the Marlins’ come from behind win, with both Wilson and Morehead City now splitting the season series in 2023.
Trailing 3-0 entering the home half of the seventh, an Elias Stevens sacrifice fly and a wild pitch that allowed Colby Ott to score from third quickly pulled the Tobs within one. And flash forward to the bottom of the eighth, Lazits’ fifth bomb of the summer put Wilson out in front.
With the Marlins down to their final two outs, a Trent Youngblood double past a diving Scott Mackiewicz gave Morehead City a shot, and three pitches later, McGwire Tuffy left the yard to surge the Marlins ahead for good. Sebastian Mejia then to proceed to slam the door for Morehead City in the home half of the frame, finishing off the Marlins’ fifth win in a row.
Next up for the Tobs, a day off before playing host to the Tri-City Chili Peppers on Thursday night at Historic Fleming Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Those still looking to purchase tickets can do so through showpass at wilsontobs.com.
