The Tobs came up short in Colonial Heights against the Chili Peppers, falling 9-7 in a back and forth affair.

Wednesday night’s contest featured six lead changes and three ties but ultimately Tri-City (12-23) got the better of the Tobs.

Carter Murphy opened up the scoring for Wilson (22-15) with a three-run homer in the 3rd, his third of the year. Murphy finished the game with three hits, bringing his season average to .330.

The Chili Peppers answered in the bottom of the third, setting the standard for both team’s offenses to answer the call as the game went back and forth. Ultimately, it came down to the Tobs being unable to score in the 8th or 9th innings – as a three run rally from Tri-City in the bottom of the 8th off of Zac Martin proved to be the ballgame.

Wilson is back home on Thursday for a double-header. The Tobs will continue their July 10th matchup with Greenville, who leads 8-2 in the 4th. Then Wilson will play its regularly scheduled game against the Yard Gnomes, but it will be just seven innings. Game one will resume at 6:00 p.m with game two set to start about a half-hour after. It will be ladies night at the ballpark.

Wilson sits in second place in the CPL Eastern Division.
