Hampton, VA – The Tobs (10-7) put up a good fight against the Peninsula Pilots (11-6), but ultimately lost 10-8.

Peninsula took a 1-0 lead in the first but the Tobs were quick to respond. Chase Waddell walked followed by a single from Carter Murphy to start the rally. Waddell was then driven home by Matthew Williams to tie up the game 1-1. Christian Michak then drove in three runs with his first home run of the season to put the Tobs up 4-1.

From there, it was a back and forth battle. Jack Kail once again helped turn a double play early in the game, but the Pilots still scored making it 4-3.

In the fourth, Peninsula took back the lead for two innings before the Tobs responded. Jack Kail and Kasten Harvey each drove in a run with sacrifice flies to tie it up 6-6 in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the inning, the Pilots scored four more runs bringing their lead back to 10-6.

Two more sacrifice flies from Kail and Matthew Williams gave the Tobs two more runs in the 7th to cut the Pilots’ lead to 10-8. However, the Tobacconists were unable to take the lead again and fell to 10-7 on the season.

On the mound, Silas Jones got his second start of the season. After his 2.1 innings, it was another bullpen night for the Tobs as we saw seven more arms on the mound.

The Tobs play the Greenville Yard Gnomes on Saturday at Guy Smith Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30. On Sunday, the TaterHogs return to Historic Fleming Stadium for a Sundae Funday and Homerun 4 Hunger – if you bring four nonperishable food goods, you will receive free admission to the game – to take on the Boone Bigfoots.
