Wilmington, N.C. – The Tobs (17-13) suffered defeat to the Sharks (15-17) in the first of three road games.
Wilson struck first in the third inning when Jack Kail drove in a run with a single to give the Tobs a 1-0 lead. However the offense went quiet, unable to build on the early momentum.
On the mound, Silas Jones turned in a dominant performance silencing the Sharks through five innings. The left-hander allowed just three hits and tallied six strikeouts without allowing a run. Wilmington finally broke through in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to take control of the game, 4-1.
The Tobs showed signs of life in the eighth when Christian Michak drew a walk and later came around to score on a clutch RBI double by Charlie Bussey, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Reliever Matthew Mariano kept Wilson in striking distance with zero runs, zero hits, and one strikeout. However, the offense came up short in the final inning.
The Tobacconists are on the road for the next two games against Greenville, and Morehead City. They are back at Fleming Stadium on July 17th for a St. Patrick’s Day themed matchup against Wilmington. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm. Only eight home games remain in the 2025 season.
