Colonial Heights, Va. – Following their home opener victory against the Holy Spring Salanders, the Tobs were faced with their first road test of the season. It was the first of six meetings this season between the Tobs and Tri-City Chili Peppers. Entering the game, the Chili Peppers had significant momentum, winning their first three games of the season.
It was evident that this momentum carried into this game. The Chili Peppers were able to get on the board early, claiming a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off of an error from Rafe Perich.
Wilson was able to respond in the second inning off a double from Scott Mackiewicz that would allow AJ Jones to score. However, this would be the Tobs’ sole run of the night.
Great performances by a variety of pitchers on the mound for the Chili Peppers limited the Wilson offense for the entirety of the night. Alex Marcus secured the CPL pitcher of the night due to his scoreless innings with two strikeouts. This was the second consecutive night that the Chili Peppers had the CPL pitcher of the night.
Wilson will look to bounce back when they return home to host the Asheboro ZooKeepers. Home-field advantage looks to play an imminent role in this matchup, with the game accompanied by the Beer & BBQ Festival and the post-game Firework Extravaganza.
