Wilson, NC – The Tobs got back in the win column with a 15-3 drubbing of the Yorktown Coconuts in their final exhibition game of the season on Saturday night.

The Tobs trailed 2-0 early, but responded with a monstrous 11-run 2nd inning. The offense was led by Christian Michak who had three hits and four RBI. Charlie Bussey had three hits and three RBI and Matthew Williams had two hits and an RBI.

Jack Kail capped off the scoring with a three run double in the 6th to give Wilson a 15-3 lead.

Noah Arnett got the start and made his debut for the Tobs in a staff day for head coach Ted Bergquist. Seven different Tobs pitchers combined to allow just three runs with 11 strikeouts.

After the game concluded, the 2025 Homerun Derby took place. Matthew Williams took home the win with thirteen total jimmys. He crushed nine in the first round and four in the second to cruise past Ahmaad Goldson from Yorktown.

“I was getting kind of nervous because absolutely nobody was hitting any home runs,” Williams said postgame. “The guys said the Coconuts won last year so we couldn’t let that happen.

“You’re just trying every swing as hard as you can.”

The Tobacconists are on the road for the next three games against Wilmington, Greenville, and Morehead City. They are back at Fleming Stadium on July 17th for a St. Patrick’s Day themed matchup against Wilmington. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm.

Only eight home games remain in the 2025 season.
