WILSON, NC – The Tobs (30-16) secured their 8th win in-a-row to clinch their first 30-win regular season in the modern CPL era in a 7-3 win over the Peninsula Pilots (32-16).

Zach Robinson started and shoved for seven innings, allowing no runs and striking out eight.

“Just came out here, filled up the strikezone,” Robinson said. “Wilson just brings some great energy every night.”

Offensively, Carter Murphy led the way with a home run and four RBIs. Charlie Bussey III notched two hits and scored three runs.

The story of the game came with two outs in the 9th inning, when head coach Ted Bergquist pulled three-year Tob veteran AJ Jones off the field and allowed the crowd to send him off during the Tobs final regular season game.

“That was probably one of my favorite moments on a ballfield,” Jones said. “I just want to be a good teammate and do the best for my team. I’m not looking for praise or anything, I guess that tells me I did a good job.”

The Tobacconists will host the East Division play-in game on Sunday, August 3rd at Historic Fleming Stadium against the reigning CPL champions, the Wilmington Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm. You can purchase your tickets on Showpass: https://www.showpass.com/playoffs-tobs-vs-sharks/
