Wilson keeps pace with the Pilots thanks to a 10-7 victory over the Morehead City Marlins on Wednesday night.

Chase Waddell got the Tobs (28-16) on the board early with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Wilson added three in the fifth to burst out to a 4-0 lead, including an RBI single from Waddell. The Tobs’ catcher now has 40 RBI on the year, tied for the CPL lead.

Morehead City (21-24) answered with three in the bottom of the fifth and the Tobs responded with two in 6th and three in the 7th to extend thair lead to 9-3. Carter Murphy blasted his fifth home run of the season as part of the 7th inning rally.

Fortunately, the Tobs never took their foot off the gas, as the Marlins plated a pair in each the 7th and 9th innings.

Matthew Williams and Thad Ector each tallied three hits, while Christian Michak drove in two runs and Charlie Bussey III stayed hot with three RBI.

Ethan Wilford was awarded the win on the mound after coming in to end the 5th inning, his ERA still a perfect 0.00.

The Tobs play host to the Marlins on Thursday, the final TaterHogs contest of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday at Historic Fleming Stadium. The Tobs have officially clinched a top-two seed in the playoffs which means they will host at least one game in the upcoming postseason.
