Wilson, N.C. – The Wilson Tobs (27-16) won a battle against the Tri-City Chili Peppers (15-26) thanks to a stellar offensive performance and move to just one game back of first in the East Division.
Thad Ector and Levi McAllister each hit home runs early on to score three runs combined. Charlie Bussey III had not one but two jimmys to earn CPL player of the night honors. He went 4-4 with a hit by pitch.
“I’ve been working on loading early and getting the foot down,” said Bussey after his performance on Tuesday night. “I saw a breaking ball and partied out front and I caught it.”
The Tobs went back-to-back at Fleming for the first time this year. First Thad Ector with his second homer of the year to right, next was Levi McAllister.
“That was pretty cool,” McAllister said. “With my guy Thad [Ector] that was awesome.”
On the mound the Tobs used seven pitchers to get the job done, with Tyrone Woods getting his first win as a Tob. Casey O’Dell nailed down his 8th save of the season to preserve the Tobs’ 27th win of the year.
The Tobbaconists are on the road Wednesday against the Morehead City Marlins before returning to Fleming as the TaterHogs for another Marlins matchup. It’s a thirsty thursday with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm.
