Wilson squandered a chance to take down the top-seeded Pilots for its first win of the second half. Instead, the Tobs blew a 6-1 lead and lost 7-6 against the Peninsula Pilots on Friday night.
Levi McAllister got the scoring started for Wilson with a solo home run in the fifth, his first of the season. The Tobs’ catcher added an RBI single in the 8th. The Tobs scored three runs on sacrifice flies from Thad Ector, Dominic Palma and Logan Luckett. Charlie Bussey III also knocked in a run.
Braxton Stewart got the start and pitched six innings for the Tobs, striking out six and only allowing one unearned run.
The Pilots eventually got some offense going off of Matthew Rivers. Carlos Pena launched a three-run homer in the 8th to draw Peninsula within one run. It was Pena’s league leading 13th home run of the season. Curry Sutherland followed that up with a mammoth home run to tie the game at six.
Casey O’Dell pitched a scoreless 9th to get the game to extras, but the Tobs offense was unable to score, even with the automatic runners on 1st and 2nd.
Scotty Young led off the 10th for the Pilots with a bunt and O’Dell tried to field the bunt and throw to third base for the force out but his throw ended up in left field and the Pilots walked it off.
The Tobs are back in action on Saturday in an exhibition game against the Yorktown Coconuts at 6:00 p.m. A home run derby between both teams is scheduled to take place after the game.
