Ted Bergquist
- Head Coach
Bio
Ted Bergquist will be calling Smithfield home in 2027 after winning a Pettit Cup Championship for the Tobs their last year in Wilson in 2025. Bergquist is the head man in the dugout for the Tobs and will add another notch to the old belt for a man whose career in baseball spans back to 1989.
Bergquist was a left-handed hurler during his days on the field, but took to coaching following his playing career.
Following his playing career, Ted began coaching both basketball and baseball at Colorado Northwestern, while also spending his summers coaching American Legion Baseball in Fort Collins, Colorado. He then moved on to coach women’s basketball at Mesa University and later men’s basketball at Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado.
Returning to his baseball roots, Ted spent nearly two decades as a collegiate and professional umpire, working at the NCAA Division II, Division I, and MiLB levels before transitioning back into coaching.
In 2021, Ted joined Fort Lupton High School as a baseball coach, then returned home to Fort Collins to coach at Fossil Ridge High School. Serving as Pitching Coach in 2022 and Head Coach in 2023, he helped lead Fossil Ridge to the first two playoff appearances in school history.
Ted then returned to the collegiate level as the Pitching Coach at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois, for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, helping guide the Rend Lake Warriors to the District Championship Game in 2025.
During the summers, Ted has found success coaching in collegiate summer baseball, leading two championship teams in the past three years — winning the Mile High Collegiate League title in 2023 with the Fort Collins Force and the Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Championship in 2025 with the Wilson Tobs in Wilson, NC.
Ted and his wife, Stacy, along with their two dogs, Slugger and JJ, are excited to call Collierville home.
