Tobs drop both to Edenton on Wednesday

(Edenton, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs were swept in a double header against the Edenton Steamers on Wednesday night. The Tobs have dropped three straight games and are 1-3 in double headers this season.

The Tobs would grab an early lead in the first inning of game one. With the bases loaded and one out, Chris Meyers drew a bases loaded walk. Wilson would have to settle for just the one run in the inning. The Steamers evened things in their half of the second inning as Brycen Thomas singled home a run.

Wilson would regain the lead in the top of the fourth. Shamoy Christopher would line a home run off the right field scoreboard for his first homer of the season.  The 2-1 Tobs lead lasted until the bottom of the fifth when both Thomas and Anthony Stehlin touched home on a fielder's choice and an Ian Walters RBI single, respectively.

The back-and-forth battle continued into sixth. Michael Calamari sent his first home run of the season over the right centerfield fence to tie the game at three. In a seven-inning contest, the Steamers found a two-run homer themselves courtesy of Walters for the walkoff victory. It was the first time Wilson lost in walkoff fashion in 2019. CJ Gonzalez (1-1) surrendered the runs in the bottom of the seventh for the loss. Grant Crosby (2-0) was handed the victory.

For game two, the Edenton offense showed its' best hand immediately. Quincy Hamilton smacked a three-run homer off Tobs' starter Colby Warren in the bottom of the first. He later went on to single in a run in the third and send a second home run in the fifth. Hamilton finished the game with five RBI in the game.

Wilson's offense never got going, mustering just one infield single for Drew DeVine in the first. The slow roller to second ended a 0 for 20 slide. The Tobs eventually fell in the contest 6-0 and were swept in the double header. Tyler Hopman (2-3) tossed seven scoreless for the victory, which brought the Steamers to the .500 record mark for the first time this season. Warren (0-1) went two and two-thirds innings while taking the loss.
