(Martinsville, V.A.) – The Wilson Tobs dropped the first game of a double header to the Martinsville Mustangs and were suspended in the second contest due to rain after just one-half inning. For the first time this season, Wilson has lost back-to-back games.
The Mustangs hopped out in front in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch from Nate Imig. Martinsville did not gather a hit in the first and didn't until the bottom of the fourth. Started by Tyler Riebock, the Mustangs offense rattled off eight straight hits against Imig, bringing home five runs. They made three outs on the bases to end the frame with those five runs, sending eight to the plate in the inning.
Martinsville starting pitcher Calvin Bash dazzled in his first start against Wilson. The right hander allowed just one single in six innings. Bash struck out ten batters, including three in each the first and second innings. Ten strikeouts stand as the most by any one pitcher against the Tobs this season in a single outing.
Imig (2-1) was handed the loss after four innings of work. Bush (1-1) earned his first win of the season. With the loss, Wilson has lost consecutive games for the first time in the 2019 season.
Wilson set out for game two and played a mere five minutes, concluding the top of the first without a base runner before the game was suspended due to rain. The game will resume on Thursday when the Mustangs make the trip to Wilson's Fleming Stadium, followed by the originally scheduled game. The Tobs do not make another trip to Hooker Field in Virginia again in the first half of the season.
Wilson returns to Fleming Stadium to face the Peninsula Pilots on June 18 for a double header starting at 6:00 PM. It's Faith & Family Night at the ballpark. Bring out your Church Family for a Night at the Ballpark with special Faith Based Activities. It's brought to you by Professional Drug Screening Services and Da Bayou Restaurant.
