Wilson, NC – The Wilson Tobs are happy to announce that the team will be welcoming three new faces this summer season. Cam Prayer (University of Houston), Trevor Nicholson (Eastern Illinois University), and Jacob Myer (Purdue Fort Wayne University) will look to be at the helm of the Wilson Tobs starting rotation in 2021.

Our first lefty slinger is Cameron Prayer, a dominant pitcher out of St. Louis, Missouri. Prayer started his college journey at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in 2019. That year he started a total of 7 games, striking out 25 batters in 22 innings of work leading to an astounding 10.07 strikeouts per 9 inning average. In 2020 Cameron transferred to Jefferson College where he played under Tobs Head coach Harry Markotay and Tobs Pitching coach Aaron Mayer. At Jefferson College, Prayer held opposing batters to a .272 batting average. He also was able to strike out 25 batters during his 20 innings of pitching which produced a 11.25 strikeout per 9 inning average. Cameron only allowed 9 walks and 1 extra base hit that season in a very tough JUCO conference. After that season Prayer took the opportunity to move up to the Division I level where he now plays for the Houston Cougars in the American Athletic Conference. So far this season, Cameron has made 4 starts in 7 appearances for the Cougars and has proven to be valuable as not only a starter, but in relief as well. This summer for the Tobs, Prayer will be in the front of the rotation and bring a wealth of knowledge and ability to the rest of the pitching staff.

Our second lefty pitcher is Trevor Nicholson. Trevor is a redshirt junior from Iuka, Illinois and is heading to Wilson Tobs for the first time in his career. Nicholson started his collegiate career at Rend Lake Community College, where he has been a workhorse 2 years leading the pitching staff in games started and innings pitched both seasons compiling 142 IP while averaging 8.76 K per 9. Due to a COVID-19 caused shortened season, Trevor worked primarily out of the pen, appearing in 5 games while making 1 start striking out 13 in 10 innings of work. In the starting rotation this spring, Trevor has shined in all facets holding opposing hitters to a measly .206 BA while striking out 30 in 26 innings pitch. His proven durability and experience both physically and mentally will help guide the Tobs pitching staff this summer. When asked about coming to play for the Tobs for the first time, he said “I’m excited for the opportunity to come out to Wilson and compete against some of the best players in the country. I have heard nothing but good things about the Tobs and I can’t wait to be a part of this program and compete for a championship as well as grow as a player and a person”.

A dominant left handed pitcher out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jacob Myer, is bringing his talents to the Wilson Tobs this summer. Myer began his collegiate career at Iowa Lakes where he was in the starting rotation for 2 years and made his presence known immediately making 9 starts his freshman year. In the shortened 2020 season Jacob made 3 starts to make a combined 12 starts at the JUCO level  throwing 57 innings with an average of 10.01 K per 9 and only allowing 6 extra base hits. In the odd 2020 summer, Myer played for both the Texas Collegiate League (TCL) and finished with the Northwoods League. While in Texas with the Amarillo Sod Dogs, he made 7 appearances out of the pen compiling 13 K and only allowing 8 hits. After the completion of the TCL, Jacob finished the season in the Northwoods with the Fon Du Lac Dock Spiders making 4 starts going 2-0 in 14 innings pitched striking out 14 sporting a 1.90 era. So far this spring for the Mastodons, Myer has been stellar in his 5 starts going 3-1 with 2 complete games. In 34.1 innings pitched Myer has only walked 9 while striking out 25 and keeping hitters to a .225 batting average against. The Tobs look forward to seeing Jacob continue his dominance in the starting role at Fleming Stadium this summer.
