Wilson, N.C. – The Tobs staged yet another dramatic comeback, this time erasing a 9-1 deficit to earn a 10-9 win over the Carolina Ducks in Wilson’s third exhibition game of the season.

New shortstop Jose Sallorin made his debut, and was the hero – bringing Jack Kail home on a walk-off single to right in the bottom of the 7th inning. Sallorin plays his college ball at LSU Shreveport, a team that went 59-0 in NAIA competition this season. He brought his winning ways to Wilson and is now 1-0 in a Tobs uniform.

Sallorin said postgame, “we have a really good team here and I believe we are going to go really far this year”.

The meat of the comeback was the 6th inning, which saw the Tobs plate eight runs to tie the score at 9. Thad Ector cashed in with the big hit, a three-run single that included a lengthy rundown, giving Chase Waddell enough time to score the tying run before Ector was tagged out between first and second.

“He is the king of Wilson, so I trusted him to run at the right time,” Ector quipped postgame. “I was just hoping it was gonna be sooner than later, and he chose later. But, we still scored so it all worked out.”

The Ducks gave the Tobs all they could handle. It took seven pitchers for Wilson, none stronger than Matthew Mariano who fired a 10 pitch scoreless frame with two punchies.

The Tobacconists are back in action on Tuesday against the Peninsula Pilots at Historic Fleming Stadium. It is a $2 Tuesday and host family appreciation night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm.
