WILSON, N.C. – The Peninsula Pilots (18-6, 1-1) paid for costly errors on Thursday night as the Wilson Tobs (11-11, 1-1) rolled to a 4-2 victory at Historic Fleming Stadium.

Drew DeVine (Western Michigan) started off the 2nd inning with a 1-0 count at the plate when Pilots starting pitcher Lliam Grubbs (James Madison) was charged with a pitcher delay between frames. DeVine finished his plate appearance by drawing a leadoff walk, putting the Tobs first run of the night on the base paths. He later came around to score on RBI groundout off the bat of Zach Hogueisson (Tennessee Wesleyan) to give Wilson a 1-0 lead.

Jared Carr (Shepherd) got the first hit for the Tobs in the 3rd inning and gave his team a 2-0 lead when drove in Griffin Everitt (Nebraska) from second base with two outs.

The Pilots struck for two runs in the 5th inning to tie the game 2-2. With two outs and runners at second and third, Jack Dragum (North Carolina) cleared the bases on a double off Tobs starting pitcher Cameron Prayer (Houston).

Jon Beymer (Campbell) relieved Prayer in the 6th inning and set down the Pilots 1-2-3 to set up the Tobs for success in their half of the frame.

Pilots reliever Gage Williams (Georgia Gwinnett College) started the 6th inning by hitting the leadoff batter, Dylan Scaranda (Barton College), with a pitch. The next man in the order, Carr, followed by stretching a single into a double that caused Erik Stock (Connecticut) to commit a throwing error at second base. Scaranda came around to score on the first Peninsula error of the night giving Wilson the lead back, 3-2.

Beymer recorded another clean frame in the 7th and was relieved by Darren Williams (Eastern Kentucky) who pitched the 8th. Williams retired the side in order on way to receiving the hold in 1.0 innings pitched.

Carr singled with one out in the bottom of the 8th and advanced to second when Gary Mattis (Tennessee Wesleyan) drew a walk. With DeVine at the plate, Carr advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error charged to Pilots catcher Justin Starke (Virginia Military Institute) that gave the Tobs an extra insurance run to lead 4-2.

Nolan DeVos (Davidson) closed out the game on a save in the 9th by striking out the side to secure the 4-2 win for the Tobs. He finished the night dealing three strikeouts in 1.0 innings pitched while touching 96 MPH on the radar gun.

Beymer got the win for Wilson pitching 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings in relief on one strikeout.

Williams took the loss allowing one run on one hit and one walk.
