Wilson, N.C. – An immaculate inning by Justin Schnell helps secure another win for the Tobs at Historic Fleming Stadium.
After Tuesday’s game got rained out, the Tobs (2-0) hosted the Virginia Beach Valor for their final exhibition game before Coastal Plain League play begins, winning 11-1. Not to worry Tobs fans, $2 Tuesday was just moved to Wednesday night.
Once again, the Tobs threw a different pitcher each inning. Jason Fink got things started on the mound with a scoreless frame, striking out three – only to be overshadowed by Schnell’s immaculate inning in the sixth.
“The name of the game is to throw strikes, and that’s what I was able to do tonight”, said Schnell after the game.
In 18 innings of exhibition ball, the Tobs’ 18 pitchers have only allowed one run while striking out 28 batters.
Offensively, AJ Jones led the way. He was on base three times, including an RBI triple off the wall in right field to cap off a five-run second. Evan Harding and Christian Michak each tallied a pair of hits, and Danny O’Brien had a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the 7th.
The CPL schedule opens Thursday Night at Historic Fleming Stadium as the Tobs host the Tri City Chili Peppers at 7:10 p.m. It’s Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark. Tobs Roll!
