Read Around the Bases
Elementary School Reading Program
The Wilson Tobs are looking to team up again with Wilson and surrounding areas elementary schools for a reading achievement rewards program. Each school Media Coordinator will have goals for their students based on their reading level. Students Kindergarten to 2nd grade will read one book at a grade appropriate level to advance to the next base. Once they reach home plate (4 books) and score a “run”, they will receive one (1) ticket to any Wilson Tobs Baseball home game during the 2024 season. Students in 3rd to 5th grade will read 40 pages of a book at a grade appropriate level to advance to the next base. Once they reach home plate (160 pages) and score a “run”, they will receive one (1) ticket to any Wilson Tobs Baseball home game during the 2024 season.
As each student collects home runs the Media Coordinator will keep track of the runs earned. A Tobs staff member will reach out at the end of the program to let each Media Coordinator know we will be collecting the total numbers for the school.
Each student has an opportunity to earn 12 total tickets (10 Any Game and 2 Books & Baseball Bash Game). These tickets may be used by anyone who they would like to bring to a game. The program is designed to run from January 8th to May 11th while working within each school’s curriculum as an added incentive. All students who participate in this program will receive Tobs game tickets and recognition for their achievements. We will supply posters, videos, and tracking material for each school that participates in the program.
(1) student from each school who scores the most home runs will earn the title of “Home Run Champion”. (1) student from each grade level at each school earning the most home runs will be considered a “Reading All-Star”. The students who read the most and score the most home runs will be on the Tobs Reading All-Star Team and receive special prizes and recognition. Please see below for prize breakdowns.
All teachers who participate in the program will be given Tobs any game tickets. They will also be invited out to the Books & Baseball Bash Celebration so they can participate in the on-field pregame recognition parade with their students.
This program has been successful for several years now and it is our hope to continually grow it each season. Remember, these are goals set by schools to help keep the program fair for all.
