Macon, GA — Before Monday night’s All-Star game between the best player in the East and West division of the Coastal Plain League, Sunday night featured a skills competition.

There were four contests: catcher’s accuracy, outfielder’s accuracy, fastest man alive and, of course, the Home Run Derby.

Wilson’s own Charlie Bussey III won the outfielder’s accuracy challenge – which determined which of the All-Stars were the most accurate when making a throw to home plate from right field. Each fielder received a point if their throw hit a garbage can that was placed on home plate, and Bussey earned the most points.

“First time playing outfield,” Bussey III said. “Great that I got to bring home the jewelry, it was a fun time.”

Chase Waddell was the other Tob that was involved in the skills competition. Waddell, who is hitting near .400 with 4 home runs and 30 RBI — participated in both the catcher’s challenge and the home run derby.

Waddell finished second to Boone’s Michael Young in the catcher’s competition, and was not a finalist in the Home Run Derby, which was won by Evan Bouldin from Tri City.

“I like to say that’s not really my game, a home run derby,” Waddell said. “But I didn’t mind doing it, going out there and just hitting some balls hard.”

Waddell will be hitting cleanup in Monday night’s All-Star game. Bussey III and fellow All-Star Carter Murphy are slated to come off the bench. Expect All-Star reliever Casey O’Dell to work an inning as well.

Tobs head coach Ted Bergquist will also be coaching in the East’s dugout.
