Macon, GA — On June 30th the Coastal Plain league announced its All-Stars for the East and West divisions.
Wilson was well represented by Chase Waddell, Casey O’Dell and Charlie Bussey III, but there was one noticeable name who did not make the roster: Carter Murphy.
“I thought for a second that I was going to get some unwanted days off,” Murphy said ahead of Monday’s All-Star game.
In videos for the Tobs’ social media pages, Waddell, O’Dell and Bussey III were each asked who is one member of the Tobs that deserved to be an All-Star. All three quickly said “Carter Murphy.”
Murphy responded to his initial All-Star snub with a 2-4 effort vs the Macon Bacon, his third straight multi-hit effort, which bumped his batting average up to a season-high .347, and an OPS of .915.
On July 3rd Murphy received notice that would be a late-addition to the East roster. From a small town in Indiana to the All-Star game in the Coastal Plain League.
“It’s a good honor to be here,” Murphy said. “It’s pretty cool.”
Murphy played one year of college ball at Indiana State before bringing his talents to the University of South Florida, where he hit .298 in 2025. He is listed as an infielder on Bulls roster, and primarily played third base and first base at school.
However, since being in Wilson, Murphy has made his presence felt the most in the outfield — which is where he will be playing in the All-Star game.
“It’s cool to be a Swiss-Army knife,” Murphy said. “I feel like it’s very valuable to the ball club so I feel like that’s part of the reason I’m here.”
Murphy has become a mainstay in head coach Ted Bergquist’s lineup because of that versatility, but also his prowess at the plate. Murphy is hitting well over .300 with seven extra base hits and 11 runs knocked in this summer.
“Carter Murphy covers the strike zone at the plate on both sides as well as any hitter in the CPL,” head coach Bergquist told the Tobs media team. “[He’s] hard working, hustles out every ball in play, [has a] good glove and gets great reads in the outfield.”
It’s not only teammates, but also his coaching staff that has high praise for the rising junior.
When asked to describe Murphy with one word, Charlie Bussey III said: “the man.”
