Wilson, NC - We have three new infielders to announce as part of your 2018 Wilson Tobs. Jarratt Mobley (UNCP), Drew Brooks (Missouri Baptist), and Ben Faso (La Salle University) will be the newest additions. You can expect solid defense and a great approach at the plate when these young men arrive in Wilson.
Local standout from Tarboro High School, Jarratt Mobley is a sophomore who will be coming to play at a very familiar stadium. He is currently starting shortstop for the Braves but will find his strong suit at the hot corner. He is known for being a lock-down defender at third base and having a strong arm. His freshman year was filled with tons of accolades. He finished the season with a .319 average, with 4 home runs. In 190 at bats, Mobley only struck out 19 times in his freshman campaign which was the Braves lowest. He was an all-Peach Belt Conference and NCBWA All-Region pick in 2017.
Brooks, the 5'8" junior, from San Antonio, will be set to wear black and gold this summer as well. He transferred from Hill Community College in Texas to Missouri Baptist where he hit 13 home runs and 11 doubles. In 75 attempts at shortstop he only committed 8 errors. He is a left-handed batter with a lot of power, but don't be fooled, he has plenty of speed and agility as well. You will find him in the middle of the infield most of the summer. So far this season Brooks has swung a .303 bat with 5 home runs and 16 RBI's through the first 23 games. His on base percentage is .459, largely due to his 20 walks in 98 plate appearances. If you are looking for Drew Brooks, I would suggest you look on the bases because that is normally where he is.
Ben Faso is currently the starting first basemen for the Explorers. He is from Media, PA and will be joining the Tobs' very dangerous line-up in 2018. After enjoying a standout season last year as a sophomore, Faso is back and looking to make more noise in his junior campaign. Last season he led La Salle in home runs (6) and doubles (10). This season he is leading his team in hits (28), average (.378), on base percentage (.439) and total bases (32). He will be a staple in the offense for the Explorers as he is playing every game and leading their team both on and off the field. You can expect him to be a main stay at first base this summer and to provide a big right-handed bat to the lineup.
