2017 Season Comes to a Close

The Tobs 2017 season came to a close after a 9-5 win over the Wilmington Sharks on Sunday night, August 6th.

The Tobs would once again like to thank everyone who came out to a Tobs game in 2017. We had over 46,000 total fans enjoy a ballgame this summer at Historic Fleming Stadium, one of the highest attendance seasons in modern day Tobs history. The Tobs had tremendous promotional and entertainment success during this historic season. The Tobs held several traditions near and dear to the community, including  the 5th Annual Home Run for Hunger Celebration, Paint the Park Pink Night, Super Splash Day, Read Around the Bases, Star Wars "Be a Hero Night", the 6th Annual Beer and BBQ Festival, the 4th Annual Diggin' in the Diamond Game, the July 4th Firework Extravaganza, Military and Local Heroes Appreciation Night, Host Family and Fan Appreciation Night, and many more.

On the field, the Tobs had two players selected to appear on bigger stages in 2017. Josh Ladowski (OF/UNC) was chosen to play in the CPL Select Game vs. Team USA, and Shane Shepard (1B/NC State) was chosen as a CPL All-Star and Home Run Derby participant.

As chosen by the Tobs coaching staff, Dawnoven Smith (OF/NC A&T) was named the Tobs offensive player of the year and Sam Luchansky (RHP/Belmont Abbey) the pitcher of the year. Smith finished the year with a .313 batting average, hitting 6 home runs with 24 RBI, slugging .484 with a .405 on-base percentage. On the mound, Luchansky finished the year with a 4-5 record over 13 appearances (10 starts) with a 5.49 ERA, striking out 26 batters.

The Tobs want to extend a special thank you to our season ticket holders, host families, and corporate partners for their support this season. Without these three components "the team behind the team", the Tobs could not exist!

The fun at Fleming Stadium doesn't end with the Tobs season, Fleming is a year round entertainment facility. Our next upcoming event is our High School Fall League featuring teams from Greenville to Raleigh! Games start September 18th, come out and enjoy a game!
